Beautiful hand-thrown kyūsu teapots in a stunning kohiki glaze, crafted in Shikoku by Kagawa-based ceramicist Mayumi Yamashita. Perfectly balancing design & function, these kyūsu feature a built-in tea strainer for loose leaf teas & herbs, alongside an elegantly designed pour spout and cozy handle. These kyūsu have been our daily brewers for many years now, and we are excited to share Mayumi’s work with you.
Mayumi Yamashita is based in Kawaga prefecture on Shikoku island in Japan. The colours and texture of her pottery is hugely inspired by Japanese woodblock print (ukiyoe) and natural dyed fabrics and wools. Her work is also influenced by her Japanese background and education in the UK which allows her to create a fusion between ‘contemporary’ and ‘traditional’ pottery.
